#544 Project
Mike & Reine's Village House
Place: Village House
Style: Contemporary, playful and laidback
Objective: Refreshing the layout and creating a functional home
Location: Tai Po
ABOUT THE CUSTOMER
Mike & Reine love the natural surroundings Tai Po has to offer, and their new village home had to balance work, relaxation, and entertaining. With a strong sense of personal style, we made sure their home felt true to them.
PROJECT INTRO
This Tai Po home was ready for a transformation. The previous tenant's wear and tear had started to show, so Mike and Reine were looking for a refresh that aligned with their lifestyle and taste. Several areas needed some TLC, starting with the living room, which had to serve as both a gathering space and a home office.
We anchored this dual-purpose room with their favourite shade of navy blue, using a curved sofa to define two zones within the shared space. The result? A room that perfectly balances work, play, and relaxation. Behind the couch sits a functional desk space and wall-to-wall shelving for keepsakes. This combination of style and purpose makes it easy for the client to transition from work mode to relaxation without ever leaving the room.
Dining Room & Kitchen
Breakfast, lunch & Dinner
Nestled next to the living room is a dining area and breakfast nook, a natural hub for meals and gatherings. We chose a large wooden dining table with a mix of chairs and a bench to keep things flexible and inviting. A large canvas sits against the wall, adding a lightness and colour to the home.
Right across is the open kitchen, here we continued the theme of balance—bringing together modern finishes with a personal touch. The mint green cabinets, a nod to the client's love for calm and soothing tones, gives the kitchen a refreshing, open feel. It's a space where cooking and conversation flow effortlessly.
WORKING FROM HOME
A workspace in the heart of the home
The living room was designed to include a versatile workspace as the client works from home. A custom shelving unit provides ample storage while also acting as a stylish backdrop for Zoom calls, balancing practicality and aesthetics. The long wooden desk sits flush with the sofa, keeping it integrated into the overall design rather than isolating it in a corner, ensuring the room's flow remains uninterrupted. With plenty of natural light streaming in, this space feels bright and energising, a must for productive workdays.
Secret Bar
A hidden Hideaway
Downstairs is the most unique feature of the home—a hidden bar. The client's love for wine, spirits and good company inspired this cosy, rustic space. With dark tones and intimate lighting, it's a clear contrast to the bright, airy feel of the rest of the house.
Here, the vibe shifts to something more playful, more reflective of a speakeasy tucked away in Central. We paired lush leathers with metallic accents, adding to the moody aesthetic of the space. It's the perfect spot to unwind, whether hosting a few friends or enjoying a quiet evening alone.
One standout transformation in this home is the bathroom. We replaced the old bathtub with a sleek standing shower, instantly doubling the sense of space. Light blue tiles and gold fixtures were chosen to add a touch of elegance, making the room feel fresh and luxurious.
From this refined bathroom to the tailored living room that seamlessly balances work and relaxation, every corner of this home has been thoughtfully redesigned. The dining area invites gatherings, while the hidden bar offers a cosy, personal retreat. Each space was carefully crafted to reflect the client's unique needs and tastes, ensuring the entire home feels both stylish and functional—truly made for living.
